The Make Book Program Included with Read Book is a program called Make Book. Make Book is for those of you out there who wish to make you own books. Make Book will take ordinary text files, and turn them into a format that Read Book can read. When you run Make Book, it will proceed to ask you some questions about the book that you will be making. I will give a little description of the questions here. Source Directory. A menu will pop up and you will be able to select the source directory for the files to come from. ALL the files the book will use have to be in this directory. When you are in the directory where the files are to come from, then hit Destination Directory. This is where the book will be put when it is completed by the Make Book utility. Title. The title is the name of the book. It can be up to 50 characters long. This is displayed at the top of every page of the book. Name. This is the name that the files will be placed under. This is only the first 8 characters. The program will add different extensions on to it for the different files. Info. You will be able to enter up to 9 lines of text, each 50 characters long. If you hit then program will abort, if you hit it will save the block and continue with the setup. Choose EGA Picture. This is optional. If there is none, then nothing will be displayed when the book is opened. This is an EGA resolution .PCX file. It MUST be (640x350,16c) Choose 256 Color Picture. Same as EGA, but this MUST be (320x200,256c) Now the program having gained this essential information, will allow you to assign the chapters. A list of the chapters will be displayed to allow you to choose what files to add. A list of the options follows. ALT-A / A menu will pop up asking if you are sure that you wish to abort the program WITHOUT saving the book to disk. ALT-E / This will pull a directory list up. From here you can choose the name of the file that will be displayed when this chapter is read. It will then ask you for a description of the chapter. If no file is chosen or if the description is left blank, then nothing will be added. ALT-H This pops a help menu up giving a BRIEF description of the commands available. ALT-I / This will insert a chapter and ask for a description and file name for the chapter. ALT-R / This will ask you is you wish to delete a chapter from the list. ALT-V View File. If you forget what a file is, you can view it with this command. ALT-W Write the current book to disk and exit the program.
