Setup / Installation Very little about Read Book needs to be changed to let it run properly. Read Book will work perfectly with only the READBOOK.EXE file and at least one book file. (Read Book will abort if there is no .TOC file in the current directory) To Install Read Book, just unzip it to any directory, which you have done if you are reading this. Now, you will wish to setup Read Book. Currently setup only allows you to change the colors and enter your Name/Registration Number. To change the setup options, press from the Chapter Read section. (You have selected a chapter, and now it is being displayed). This will bring up the configuration menu. A brief description of its options follows: 1) Name: This is just YOUR name. If you have a registered version of Read Book, then it will display this instead of [UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY]. This doesn't do anything this is an unregistered copy of Read Book. 2) Registration Number: Here is where you get to stick in your registration number. If you have a registered version, then the Automatic Book- marking will be turned on, and the registration screen in the beginning will be turned off. For more information of registering, look at the chapter at the end of the book on registering. 3) Color Selection: This is a generic for all the color selection options. When you choose one of the colors to change, you will be allowed to scroll through the different colors using the up and down arrow keys to select whatever color you prefer. The foreground and high- lighted colors can be chosen from a pallet of 16 colors, the back- ground colors can also be chosen from a pallet of 16 colors, without the normal annoying blinking for the upper 8 colors. 4) Printer: This lets you select your printer port from LTP1, LPT2 and LPT3. 5) Printer Lines: This lets you select the number of lines of text to print on every printer page. 6) Graphics: This allows you to set the default graphics capability if the autodetect doesn't detect you system correctly. The Graphics can be AUTO, NONE, EGA or VGA. Whatever graphics mode is set in the config file will override the graphics autodetection. If you wish to be able to use the program in more than one computer, but do not wish to have to enter the graphics mode everytime, then choose AUTO, which will tell the computer to use the autodetected mode. This can also be set temporarily from the command line. (If you save the configuration, it will save as what ever the graphics are currently set as.) To set the graphics from the command line you enter: C>READBOOK /GEGA (You can use /GAUTO, /GNONE or /GVGA, instead of /GEGA, depending on your system) Specifying the graphics on the command line will override both the setup in the config file AND the autodetection. 7) Quit: This allows you to quit the configuration menu without saving any changes that you might have made. 8) Save Configuration: Just what it says. This will save the current setup.
