SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to import data from the Microsoft Windows Active Directory, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Active Directory is not installed. To continue, please select another data source.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using Microsoft Visio 2002 on a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer.
The behavior occurs because Windows Me does not include a Directory Services Client for use with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory service.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, install the Directory Services Client tool on the Microsoft Windows Me-based computer.
Although Windows Me does not support the Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 Directory Services Client product, nor does it include the more advanced features available in Windows 2000 Professional, you may be able to install Directory Services Client on a Windows Me-based computer for testing purposes.
NOTE: Microsoft provides this workaround for advanced users who regularly test unsupported software configurations.
The Directory Services Client DSclient.exe is included on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in the Clients\Win9x folder.
