SFF-8000 June 5, 2010 Catalog of SFF Specifications The SFF Committee was formed in 1990 define the emerging disk drive form factor for laptop computers. In November 1992, the members broadened the objectives to complement the formal standards process in any area of the storage industry which needed prompt attention. SFF projects are in areas not addressed by standards committees because of timing, charter, or other considerations. Most published specifications are submitted to an accredited standards body such as an ASC (Accredited Standards Committee) X3T*, EIA (Electronic Industries Association), or IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). They may be accepted as separate standards, or be incorporated into other standards activities. Documentation is distributed on CD. Each CD_Access mailing obsoletes the previous mailing of that year and the last SFF CD_Access mailing of each year represents an archive. E = Expired The specification has been published, and the members voted against re-publishing when it came up for review. a = archive Used as a suffix to indicate an SFF Specification which has been Archived. This specification will always be available at the ftp site and new development effort in the subject area shall be done under a new number. e = electronic Used as a suffix to indicate an SFF Specification which has Expired but is still available in electronic form from SFF e.g. a specification has been incorporated into a draft or published standard which is only available in hard copy. i = Information Used as a suffix to indicate a specification not developed as an SFF project. The content was provided by a company, editor of a standard in development, or an individual. It is provided for broad review (comments to the author are encouraged). As the copyright on such documents is retained by the author, the INF or 'i' specifications cannot be freely copied for distribution.
